PM praises role of AFC in football development

ISLAMABAD, Nov 06 (APP): President Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President and FIFA Senior Vice President Shaikh Salman Ebrahim Hamad Al Khalifa called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here on Thursday and discussed matters related to football.
The Prime Minister welcomed the AFC President and praised the role of the AFC under the leadership of Shaikh Salman Ebrahim Hamad Al Khalifa in the development of the game of football in Asia.
The Prime Minister, while highlighting the government’s initiatives for the promotion of sports in the country, said that the government was striving to provide equal opportunities to the youth in all sports, including football.
He reiterated his commitment to the development of football in Pakistan, making it an important hub for the game of football in the region and establishing an autonomous and merit-based football federation.
The Prime Minister expressed keen interest in cooperation between Pakistan and the AFC in the development of football in Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, provision of coaches and referees, establishment of stadiums, national training centers and talent pathways. The Prime Minister also expressed his desire to host AFC matches in Pakistan.
Shaikh Salman Ebrahim Hamad Al Khalifa thanked the Prime Minister for his excellent hospitality and reiterated the AFC’s support for the development of football in Pakistan.
