PM for promoting tourism sector to create job opportunities

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7 (APP):Highlighting the huge tourism potential that existed in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday said the promotion of tourism sector besides providing quality entertainment to the people in the country would also attract foreign tourists, promote tourism-related sectors and create job opportunities.
He was chairing a meeting held here regarding the promotion of tourism sector. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The meeting was briefed about the measures being taken to promote tourism sector in the country.
The prime minister was told that for the first time in country’s history, a ten-year National Tourism Strategy 2020-2030 had been formulated.
Besides, a five-year National Tourism Action Plan 2020-2025 had also been drafted coupled with a national calendar for holding various events to promote tourism, he was told.
The prime minister was further told that with the launching of a new website of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and introducing an online booking system, the reforms process in PTDC had been started.
In addition, approval process for various tourism-related projects was also continuing.
The meeting also deliberated in detail various measures for the promotion of tourism sector in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
