PM directs urgent relief measures for people stuck in quake-hit mountains

DASU, Oct 29 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on
Thursday directed the authorities to take urgent measures including
the use of helicopter to drop relief items to the earthquake-
affected people stranded at high-altitude mountains.
During his visit to the earthquake-affected areas of Dasu
tehsil, the Prime Minister directed the District Coordination Officer Dasu to urgently send a requisition for helicopters to help out the victims
rather than waiting for the roads clearance.
The road links in Dasu was badly disturbed after landslide of
mountains in the area.
The Prime Minister also directed the DCO Dasu to arrange heavy
machinery to clear the road blockade for an uninterrupted supply of
relief items.He expressed concern over the conditions of the shelterless
who were also facing severe winter in the area and directed to ensure immediate supply of food, blankets and tents.
The Prime Minister said the local administration should work
in coordination with the disaster management officials to facilitate
the affected people .
Nawaz Sharif was given a briefing about the losses in
the aftermath of earthquake that struck the country on Monday.
The DCO Dasu apprised the Prime Minister that relief and
rehabilitation work was in progress in Dasu where 12 persons were
killed and a number of houses were damaged.
He informed the Prime Minister that survey teams had been
activated for an assessment of losses.
Chief Minister KPK Pervaiz Khattak said that there should
be no excuse for unavailability of heavy machinery in the area.
He said that the DCO should have immediately exercised his powers in
emergency situation.Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed and officials of local
administration were present.
