PM briefed on railway projects falling under CPEC

ISLAMABAD, Nov 2 (APP): Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad
Rafique on Monday briefed Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on
the railway projects included in China Pakistan Economic Corridor
(CPEC) at the PM House.
Minister for Railways apprised the Prime Minister that Sukkur
Railway Station would be included in the list of projects proposed
to be built under CPEC arrangements, said a PM House press release here.
He said that local architectural heritage would be reflected
in upgrading of the buildings of Narowal and other railway stations and the main building of Narowal Railway Station would be completed within 18 months.
Regarding the railway lands, the Prime Minister was briefed
that commercial potential of the railways land surrounding the stations would be fully utilized by building commercial plazas, shopping malls, marquees, hotels, cinemas, food streets etc. to generate income for railways and contribute to development of the local areas.
It was proposed in the briefing that the government of
Punjab might construct allied facilities falling in the provincial
domain such as feeding roads, sewerage systems etc from its own
resources.
The Prime Minister directed Ministry of Railways to submit a
construction and financial plan for the execution of the Islamabad-
Muzaffarabad Railway link as single project, rather than two, within
the shortest possible timeframe.
The briefing was also attended by Ahsan Iqbal Minister for
Planning and Development, Javaid Aslam Secretary PM Office, Khizar
Hayat Gondal, Chief Secretary Punjab, Parveen Agha, Federal
Secretary Railways, Yousaf Naseem Khokhar, Federal Secretary
Planning and Development, Amjad Ali Khan, MD NESPAK and other senior
officers from PM Office, ministries of railways and planning and
development.
