Plantation campaign kicks off at schools of Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): A two-day plantation campaign under Green Pakistan Programme started here on Wednesday with school children to plant saplings at various schools of the Capital.

Ministry of Climate Change has organised this plantation campaign 2016 in collaboration of PIEDAR (NGO).Following this two days campaign, a total of 650 saplings will be planted at seven schools of Islamabad.
Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change and Green Pakistan Programme Rizwan Mehboob visited Islamabad Model School No. 1, G-8/4 and formally inaugurated the campaign.
He briefed the teachers as well as students about the importance of trees in environment and said that national tree plantation campaign has been launched following directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif.
The students from Class 1 to 5 showed keen interest in planting the saplings.A total of 100 saplings were planted by the students of various classes in this school who also raised various questions about the impacts of trees on environment.
DIG Forest Munaf Qaimkhani also visited the school and mingled with students to tell them about environmental, social and communal benefits of the trees.
He urged the children to plant trees or saplings in their homes and consider them as their asset.He also communicated the children as how trees combat climate change, clean the air, provide oxygen, conserve energy, cool the streets and city.
DIG Forest hoped that children would adopt habit of planting trees and also urged their parents and elders to assist the efforts for cleaner environment.
