ISLAMABAD, Jun 30 (APP):As the monsoon season draws near, environmental experts are calling on citizens to play a crucial role in mitigating the effects of hot weather by planting trees.
The monsoon season, which brings much-needed rain to the region, also presents an ideal opportunity for planting trees.             The moist soil and ample water supply create a perfect environment for saplings to grow. Experts say that by planting trees now, citizens can help to reduce the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and create a more sustainable environment.
According to Dr. Maria, a renowned environmental scientist, “Planting trees is one of the most effective ways to combat rising temperatures and create a cooler climate”. She commented that trees provide shade, absorb carbon dioxide, and release oxygen, making them a natural solution to the urban heat island effect.
She said the benefits of planting trees are numerous adding that not only do trees provide shade and cool the air, but they also help to reduce air pollution, support biodiversity, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of our cities.
Experts estimate that if every household in the city planted just one tree, it would make a significant difference to the environment.
Another environmental expert Dr Muneer said “It’s a small step that can have a big impact,by working together, we can create a cooler, more sustainable climate for future generations.” Every tree counts, and every effort makes a difference noting that let’s work together to create a greener, cooler future for ourselves and for generations to come,he stated.                                                          He further told that the monsoon season is an ideal time for planting trees and other vegetation.                                                                     He added that the ample rainfall and moist soil create a perfect environment for saplings to grow, reducing the need for frequent watering and increasing their chances of survival.
“By planting during the monsoon season, we can give our trees a strong start, helping them to thrive and provide numerous benefits for the environment and our communities,” he said.
Spokesperson from the CDA nursery Muhammad Ismail said the government has also launched initiatives to encourage citizens to plant trees.
He said “We are providing free saplings and technical support to residents who want to plant trees”.
