Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Health on Thursday visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to review the tragic fire incident at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and assess the ongoing investigation.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Health on Thursday visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to review the tragic fire incident at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and assess the ongoing investigation.
The committee members, led by Chairman Dr Mahesh Kumar, visited the hospital and sought information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Taking to the media, Dr Mahesh Kumar said the committee expected and wanted a transparent and impartial investigation so that the facts could be brought before the public.
“We hope and want a transparent investigation. Whether a senior officer or a junior official is responsible, the facts must come,” he said.
He said the first and most important question was to determine how the fire started and what circumstances led to the tragic incident.
The committee would also review the emergency response, safety arrangements and the presence and role of relevant staff at the time of the incident, he added.
Dr Mahesh Kumar stressed that no individual should be protected if any negligence or lapse was established during the investigation.
He said that the government has already constituted a high-level inquiry committee to thoroughly investigate the PIMS fire incident and determine responsibilities.
