Performance reports to strengthen self-accountability, ensure ministers’ responsibility: Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD, Jan 08 (APP): Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Thursday said that the government aims to further improve the governance model through performance evaluations of all ministries.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that the one-year performance report of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs would be submitted to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and also shared with the public through the media.

He added that the purpose of these performance reports was to strengthen the system of self-accountability and to ensure that ministers remain answerable for their responsibilities.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the role of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs was not limited to addressing complaints and resolving issues, but also included providing effective platforms for political and public representation.

He reiterated that the government was open to dialogue of all kinds, as sustainable solutions to issues could only be achieved through talks and dialogue.

He said that, on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the performance report covering the period from January to December 2025 would be presented and shared with the public through the media. “Our objective is to further improve governance through the performance of ministries,” he added.

The minister noted that improved performance was visible in addressing challenges related to investment, the power sector, maritime affairs, mines and minerals, foreign affairs, and climate change.

He stressed that it was essential to keep the nation informed about the steps being taken by the government.

He said that the prime minister had directed all ministers to inform the public about the targets set by their respective ministries over the past year and the progress achieved.

He added that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs played a key role in promoting the democratic process, political stability, and transparency in the country through effective political and public representation.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that noticeable improvement and development were being witnessed across various ministries and that the national economy was moving towards stability and growth.

He said that the objective of this report was to strengthen self-accountability within ministries and to ensure ministers’ responsibility, while clear indicators of investment and development were emerging in the country.

Referring to the political situation, the minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had always supported dialogue and that the government remained ready for talks even today.

He reiterated that sustainable solutions to political issues could only be achieved through dialogue.

He said that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs maintained strong and effective coordination with allied parties and that their suggestions and concerns were conveyed directly to the prime minister.

He added that the prime minister had, on several occasions, termed dialogue indispensable for resolving political issues.

Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that negotiations were considered an essential part of politics and a means to resolve national issues.

For this purpose, committees were given special mandates to ensure effective representation of the public and various political parties.

He clarified that the government had adopted an open and positive policy towards negotiations so that differences and issues could be resolved through dialogue.
