People should avoid travelling on highways in fog: DG Rescue

LAHORE, Dec 8 (APP): DG Rescue Punjab Dr. Arshad Zia on Tuesday advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travelling during fog hours,especially when the visibility level is zero
on National Highways & Motorways.
Chairing a meeting of rescue officers in Provincial Monitoring Cell (PMC), he said that if the travelling was necessary and unavoidable, the people should ensure that the
fog lights and indicators were in working condition for life safety.
The PMC briefed the DG Rescue 1122 that this fogy season was further expected in the coming days due to which major traffic accidents might take place. Dr. Arshad directed all the District Emergency Officers (DEOs) to educate people especially the commuters about
precautionary measures during this ongoing foggy season. He further directed the DEOs to develop coordination and liaison with the National Highways and Motorways Police.
The officials have also been directed to ensure swift provision of emergency services in case of any untoward incident in their relevant districts. He said plain areas of Punjab province including Lahore,Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Multan,Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Faisalabad were in the grip of thick fog and the intensity of fog would increase during the next couple of days.Provincial Monitoring Officer Dr. Farhan Khalid, Deputy Director (HR) Dr. Foaad Shahzad Mirza, Deputy Director (P&D)Faheem Qureshi, Deputy Director (Finance) Naeem Mukhtar, Head of Operations Mr. Ayaz Aslam and other emergency officers were present in the meeting.DG Rescue Punjab said that the data of road traffic accidents showed that overall ratio of traffic accidents decreased during foggy season, but major traffic accidents increased on national highways due to low visibility.
