ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP):Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Muhammad Saleem Baig Thursday stressed upon making the regional setup more vibrant and fully available to the genuine demands of the stakeholders and ensure the firm compliance of PEMRA laws and Code of Conduct in polite but effective manner.
This he said during his visit to Regional Office Faisalabad where he was briefed about the operational activities, licensing and enforcement in Faisalabad Region by Incharge Regional Office , Hafiz Jamil Asghar .
He also necessitated to adopt a comprehensive plan of action against the infiltration of illegal Indian DTH in Pakistan so that smooth sailing for Pakistani DTH could be ensured and level playing field be guaranteed.
During visit, the PEMRA chairman also held meeting with the representatives of the cable operators of the Faisalabad and assured them PEMRA’s support in accordance with law.
However, he directed cable operators to operate within the ambit of law and to stop all illegal channels as well as the excessive foreign content being aired on CD channels and emphasized that they are the custodians of moral and social values and hence have a great responsibility towards building a responsible society.
He urged them to make DTH a success in Pakistan in collaboration with PEMRA in order to avoid larceny of billions of rupees out of Pakistan due to the illegal DTH and assured the reddressal of all the genuine demands of the cable operators.
PEMRA chairman urged cable operator to ensure best facilitation and services to the public and to stop airing the channels which do not conform to our socio-cultural or religious values.He further emphasized that the Cable Operators should play their role in creating awareness among the masses especially by relying the public service messages being developed on pressing issues, such as Dam Fund, Clean Green Pakistan and Traffic laws which play a pivotal role in making of a socially responsible society.
He said PEMRA will exercise zero tolerance against the illegal DTH as well as the illegal channels.
He while talking to officials at Regional Office Faisalabad urged that the regulator must be polite but firm when it comes to the implementation of Rules and Regulations. He stressed upon open door policy for regular communication with all stakeholders.
He said Pakistan and PEMRA’s interest must be supreme and all possible means be adopted for imparting facilitation and support to all the licensees within the ambit of law.
He was accompanied by Director General Operations, General Manager Operations and other officials of PEMRA.
