A senior Iranian ministerial delegation led by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on Wednesday toured the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s disaster response excellence draws Iran’s admiration
ISLAMABAD, Jul 22 (APP): A senior Iranian ministerial delegation led by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on Wednesday toured the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters in Islamabad.
Iranian delegation witnessed Pakistan’s cutting edge disaster management ecosystem, applauded the country’s technological strides in disaster preparedness and response, and sought deeper cooperation in building regional resilience against natural and climate-induced hazards.
Accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, the delegation was received by Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who presented a comprehensive overview of Pakistan’s evolving disaster management framework and the country’s transition from reactive response to proactive risk governance.
According to an NDMA press release, the visiting dignitaries were briefed on the capabilities of the NEOC and NDMA’s innovative efforts to reduce disaster risks through advanced forecasting, anticipatory action and technology-driven decision-making systems.
Lt Gen Malik highlighted NDMA’s vision for integrating next generation technologies into disaster management, enabling more accurate disaster early warnings and synchronised response mechanisms among emergency responders, government institutions and resource providers.
The delegation was also informed about NDMA’s structured coordination with national leadership, provincial and regional governments, security institutions, humanitarian partners and international organisations to ensure timely and effective responses to emergencies.
Officials explained how Pakistan’s multi-tier disaster response architecture, strengthened through continuous preparedness measures and resource mobilisation strategies, has enhanced the country’s ability to respond swiftly to natural disasters and climate-related emergencies.
During the visit, NDMA showcased its flagship analytical platform, Disaster Lens 2026, which provides real-time risk assessment and disaster monitoring capabilities for Pakistan and the wider international community.
The Iranian delegation was also shown a series of Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises aimed at improving coordination, preparedness and operational readiness for large-scale disaster scenarios.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Momeni praised NDMA’s remarkable transformation into a modern and technology-enabled disaster management institution, describing Pakistan’s achievements as impressive and worthy of regional recognition.
He expressed Iran’s keen interest in learning from Pakistan’s experience in early warning systems, anticipatory disaster management, institutional coordination and the application of advanced technologies for disaster risk reduction.
The Iranian minister said enhanced cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two neighbouring countries would contribute significantly to strengthening regional resilience against natural hazards and the growing challenges posed by climate change.
Both sides underscored the importance of expanding institutional linkages, promoting technical collaboration and fostering closer cooperation to address emerging disaster risks and build a safer and more resilient future for the region.
