Pakistan, WDO agree to enhance cooperation for women’s rights, empowerment

ISLAMABAD, Jul 12 (APP): Federal Minister for Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar on Sunday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment towards protecting and promoting women’s rights, emphasizing stronger cooperation among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states in this regards.
He was speaking during a meeting with the Counsellor Sarah Ismail Al Shoura, Executive Director of the Women Development Organization (WDO).
During the meeting, the minister said Islam had granted women comprehensive rights and a dignified status, adding that it was the collective responsibility of the Muslim Ummah to safeguard and uphold those rights.
He said Pakistan was implementing priority initiatives for the protection and empowerment of women, noting that women are playing leading roles in politics, parliament and other key sectors of national life.
The meeting also focused on promoting cooperation between Pakistan and the Women Development Organization, with discussions covering women’s rights, empowerment, and expanding collaboration among OIC member states.
The minister and Counsellor Sarah Ismail Al Shoura agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of women’s empowerment, socio-economic development and institutional collaboration.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation under the OIC framework through capacity building, exchange of expertise and best practices, and joint initiatives aimed at advancing women’s rights and enhancing opportunities for women across OIC member countries.
