Pakistan Ulema Council welcomes Pakistan-Saudi-Turkiye defense agreement, terms it historic milestone for Muslim unity

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Prime Minister’s Coordinator on the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee and Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, on Friday welcomed the defense agreement among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, calling it a significant step toward greater unity and collective security in the Muslim world.

In a video message from Makkah, Ashrafi congratulated the governments and peoples of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, describing the agreement ‘a historic milestone’ extending beyond cooperation among three countries and carrying broader significance for the future of the Muslim Ummah’.

Ashrafi said the development reflected the aspirations of Muslims worldwide and expressed hope that it would contribute to regional peace, stability, and stronger coordination among Islamic countries. He also voiced support for the Palestinian and Kashmiri peoples, saying he hoped the initiative would ultimately help advance justice and peace in both regions.

He praised Pakistan’s leadership, particularly Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for sustained diplomatic efforts intended at preventing wider regional confrontation. He also acknowledged Turkiye’s role in the initiative.

Ashrafi said the understanding symbolizes shared values among Muslim nations and demonstrates a commitment to collective security, dialogue, and cooperation. He expressed optimism that closer coordination among Islamic countries would help counter extremism and terrorism while promoting stability and prosperity across the Muslim world.

He further said the security and stability of the Two Holy Mosques remain of paramount importance to Muslims and reiterated his view that Muslim countries should stand united in safeguarding their shared interests and addressing regional challenges through cooperation.

He also expressed hope that additional Islamic countries would join future efforts to strengthen collaboration, saying greater unity among Muslim-majority nations would contribute to regional peace, mutual development, and support for legitimate causes, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

Ashrafi concluded his message by praying for the continued unity, peace, dignity, and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah.
