Pakistan to achieve sustainable development goals: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD, Dec 7 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Monday said that Pakistan would achieve the sustainable development goals recently announced by the United Nations for the welfare and prosperity of the people.
Addressing 8th South Asia Economic Summit here, he said although Pakistan could not achieve many of the Millennium Development Goals in the past but now it was well poised to achieve the economic targets due to prudent economic polices adopted by the
present government. The Advisor said there was a need of rural development for
sustainable development and the government had been giving due  importance to this sector Pakistan, he said, had taken several steps in the last couple
of years to resolve the issue of poverty.Sartaj Aziz said the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was one of the important projects being providing financial assistance
to millions of people in over 118 districts throughout the country.The Advisor said the present government had enhanced the budget for BISP and assured that there would be further expansion in this programme in the years to come.
He said organized efforts were under way for disaster management and to meet the challenges posed by the climate change.
