ISLAMABAD, March 6 (APP):Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari Wednesday said a first information report (FIR) had been registered here in the country of the murder of Shakirullah – a Pakistani prisoner who was in Indian jail since 2003.
Responding to a query raised by Senator Mushahidullah in the Senate, she said the issue was being taken up with Indian government and International Committee of the Red Cross. The flow up would be continued keeping in view sensitivity of the case, she added.
Mazari informed that before handing over the body of slain Pakistani prisoner to his heirs for the burial ceremony, the autopsy was conducted to know the real causes of his death.She said the government wanted to compensate Shakirullah’s family if the Parliament would give a positive nod in this regard.
She apprised that the prime minister had instructed to revive Pak-India judicial committee comprising four judges from each country to review the prisoners condition languishing in twin countries jails as the committee was in active since 2013.
To the query of Senator Farooq H Naik about the provision of law for registering the FIR, she replied that after seeking legal opinion from the quarter concerned, the FIR was registered.
