Pakistan Post, BoP ink MoU to provide soft loans to youth to acquire DFPO

ISLAMABAD, Aug 6 (APP): Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed Friday said the present government was in process of creating enabling environment for the youth not only for reducing unemployment but for utilizing their potential as well.

Addressing memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Pakistan Post and Bank of Punjab (BoP), under the Prime Minister Kamayab Jawan Entrepreneurship scheme, he said under the MoU soft loans would be provided to the Digital Franchise Post Offices (DFPO) applicants.

He said Pakistan Post had adopted a strategy to enable the youth to meet the expenditures involved in acquisition of a franchise post office.

The minister said the BoP would sanction loans to the aspirant youth under the “Kamyab Jawan Scheme” specifically to acquire a DFPO.

“If Pakistan’s youth will be successful than Pakistan will be successful,” he remarked. He further informed that more than 10,000 youth applied for the DFPO.

He thanked Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar, saying that Dar had signed the MoU to provide soft loans to the applicants of DFPO.

He said every circle of Pakistan Post would be given business targets and promotions would be based on the performance of the officials.

The minister informed that e-commerce portal would be launched within three to four months which would convert the department’s entire system on digitalization to benefit the postal clients.

He said Pakistan Post had also started receiving foreign remittances and domestic money transfers services including Electronic Money Order Service and EMS Plus.

He said mobile application and trace and track system had also been introduced during the last two years.

Murad Saeed said when PTI came into power, Pakistan Post was facing huge financial losses which through prudent policies were being resolved one by one.

He reiterated that the present government’s resolve was to make the country economically vibrant, besides providing relief to the masses.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar said there was number of challenges being faced by the present government and one of the challenge was to create job opportunities for the youth as two million youth were annually joining the market.

He said under the Kamyab Jawan programme Rs5 billion would be earmarked for the provision of soft loans to the youth across the country under this accord.

He said the government was reducing non-development expenditure of the institutions to reduce fiscal deficit.

He said youth should apply for the loan on the portal online or by visiting the BoP.
The event was attended among others by secretary communications, BoG president and Pakistan Post director general.
