Pakistan participates in WHO drug monitoring meeting
ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): Pakistan participated in the 44th annual meeting of the World Health Organization Programme for International Drug Monitoring (WHO PIDM), held in Costa Rica, with a focus on strengthening pharmacovigilance, risk communication and patient safety.
Representing Pakistan, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Director Pharmacy Services Dr Akhtar Abbas Khan moderated a session on “Communication as a Risk Minimization Tool.”
The session provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and discuss the role of effective communication in strengthening pharmacovigilance and minimizing risks associated with medicines and vaccines.
Pakistan, as a member state of the WHO PIDM, participated in discussions aimed at improving medicine safety through timely, evidence-based communication and stronger monitoring systems.
DRAP emphasized its commitment to strengthening pharmacovigilance in Pakistan and promoting effective risk communication among relevant stakeholders.
The participation also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to further align its medicine safety practices with international standards, including the World Health Organization (WHO) Pharmacovigilance SMART Strategy.
