Pakistan implementing UN Charter to achieve goals of peace, development: FM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP):Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Wednesday said Pakistan was implementing the UN Charter to achieve the goals of peace, security and development. Addressing the ceremony to mark the 73rd United Nations Day here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said the day was important to reaffirm commitment to the UN Charter and values.
The foreign minister said Pakistan during its longstanding partnership with the UN had accomplished several goals in the interest of its people.
He said undoubtedly, the UN had several achievements to its credit ranging from poverty alleviation, health care, peace-keeping and environmental protection.
He mentioned that the government was determined to pursue people-centric economic agenda.
He thanked the UN country team for partnering with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the day.
UN’s Country Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne said on the eve of UN’s 73rd anniversary, it was the time to look back for lessons and to examine Pakistan’s needs and aspirations.
He said today, the world was facing several challenges in areas of peace, security, sustainable development, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergency.
The video message of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterrus was screened on the occasion in which he said, “We reaffirm our commitment to repair broken trust, to heal our planet, to leave no one behind. We will never give up”.
Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and senior ministry officials were present.
