Pakistan, Gavi discuss vaccine allocation, procurement
ISLAMABAD, Sep 29 (APP): Pakistan and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, held a coordination meeting on Tuesday to discuss the country’s vaccine requirements, future allocation under Gavi’s 6.0 planning period and procurement arrangements for the Hexa vaccine following its launch.
The meeting was led by Director General, Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), Dr Musa Khan and Joint Secretary (FC&I), Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Capt. (R) Muhammad Anwar Ul Haq.
Gavi was represented by Senior Manager, Country Health Systems Ibrahim Muhammad and Programme Manager for High Impact Countries Craig Beyerinck. The meeting was convened by Gavi National Liaison Officer Tooba Farooqi.
The participants held detailed discussions on planning the country’s vaccine allocation for the Gavi 6.0 planning period and the procurement modality for the Hexa vaccine after its introduction.
Dr Musa Khan stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between the government, donors and development partners to improve immunization coverage across the country.
He said coordinated efforts were needed to ensure high and equitable access to vaccines against the 13 vaccine-preventable diseases included in Pakistan’s immunization programme.
The meeting also reviewed areas of continued cooperation to strengthen vaccine availability, procurement planning and immunization services across Pakistan.
