ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):Pakistan and France celebrated a decade of archaeological partnership at Chanhu Daro, Sindh, recognizing ten years of joint excavations under the French Archaeological Mission in the Indus Basin (MAFBI).
The event, held in Islamabad, highlighted ongoing scientific cooperation between the two countries in exploring and preserving the shared heritage of the Indus Valley Civilization.
The ceremony, attended by officials, archaeologists, and diplomats, marked the 10th anniversary of the Pakistani-French archaeological excavations at Chanhu Daro, a key site of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization.
The initiative, led by the French Archaeological Mission and supported by Pakistan’s Department of Archaeology and Museums, was described as a milestone in the history of cultural and research collaboration between the two nations.

France also marked the 80th anniversary of its Commission for French Archaeological Missions Abroad, which has supported more than 190 research projects across five continents. Speakers noted that these missions combine scientific study with cultural cooperation, promoting international dialogue through heritage preservation.
Over the past decade, the joint mission at Chanhu Daro has brought together researchers, students, and institutions from both countries. The collaboration has enabled scientific study of the site’s ancient remains and opened new opportunities for Pakistani archaeologists to train and conduct research in France.
The French Archaeological Mission has been active in Pakistan since 1958, making it one of the longest-running foreign archaeological programs in the country. Teams from both nations have explored, excavated, and documented key discoveries, adding new insights to the understanding of the Indus Valley Civilization.

The event also recognized the achievements of the mission’s director, Dr. Aurore Didier, who received the Tamgha-e-Pakistan award in 2024 for her role in advancing bilateral archaeological cooperation.
In closing remarks, speakers expressed gratitude to the French and Pakistani archaeological departments, universities, and professionals involved in the project. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the partnership, emphasizing the importance of joint research and cultural understanding.
