Pakistan expresses grief over deaths of citizens in MT Honour 25 recovery operation

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson announced on Wednesday that three Pakistani nationals, Rafi Ullah Khan, Syed Kashif Umer and Mahmood Ahmed Ansari were among the casualties from the operation to reclaim the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25 off the coast of Somalia.

Pakistan was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of five crew members during the operation to recover the hijacked vessel.

 “The Government and people of Pakistan extend their deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We share their grief at this painful time and pray for strength, patience and comfort for the families, and for the departed souls to rest in peace,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press statement.

Four crew members were also injured, including three Pakistani nationals who had been taken to a nearby hospital and were receiving medical care, while surviving crew members of MT Honour 25 were brought safely ashore at Bandar Beyla.

Pakistan’s team at the Embassy in Djibouti is proceeding to Bandar Beyla to assist the Pakistani nationals.

“The Government of Pakistan, through its Mission and relevant authorities, remains in close contact with the Somali authorities and other concerned stakeholders. Every possible effort is being made to ensure proper medical care for the injured, facilitate the transportation of the mortal remains of the deceased, and ensure the safe return of the surviving Pakistani crew members,” it was further added.
