Pakistan Day Celebration; 2000 cops to ensure security, Faizabad Chowk to remain closed

RAWALPINDI, Mar 22 (APP):Over 2000 police personnel will be deployed in the city to ensure security on Pakistan Day (March 23) to be celebrated on Friday while Faizabad Chowk will remain closed for all kind of vehicular traffic.
According to a police spokesman, on the directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi elaborate security arrangements have been made. Besides district police, special branch, Elite and Dolphin Force personnel would also perform security duties on Pakistan Day.
He informed, the cops would also perform rooftop duties to make security arrangements foolproof. Police officials have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the city, he said adding, the city has been divided into various sectors which are being covered by setting up different police pickets.
Police officers of all the police stations have been directed to make police patrolling more effective. SPs and SDPOs are
supervising and monitoring security and patrolling plan, he added. The spokesman said, all out efforts are being made to avoid any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have also finalized all the arrangements for Pakistan Day and Faizabad Chowk will remain closed for all kind of vehicular traffic on Mar 23.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Yousaf Ali Shahid, traffic would not be allowed to enter Islamabad from
Rawalpindi on Friday particularly from morning to conclusion of the Parade. A comprehensive traffic plan has been finalized to regulate traffic on the city roads and negligence on part of Traffic Wardens would not be tolerated, he added.
Enhanced number of traffic wardens would be deployed, he said adding, traffic from Faizabad to Rawaplindi and Islamabad would be suspended while all traffic using Murree Road would be diverted to Double Road and through 9th Avenue enter Islamabad. Whereas, the traffic coming from Koral Chowk would use Khanna Pull Service Road to enter Islamabad, after passing
through Shamsabad via Double Road and 9th Avenue.
Six DSPs, 30 Inspectors/Incharges, 227 Warden Officers and 29 Junior Traffic Wardens would perform duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic on these two routes, he added.
The CTO further informed that Motorway and National Highway police have been requested not to allow heavy traffic coming from Peshawar to enter the city and should be stopped at Attock bridge, Harow bridge, Margalla, Taxila and Chungi No. 26.
Similarly, heavy traffic coming from Lahore and Murree via GT Road and Murree Road would also be stopped from entering the city, he added.
Heavy vehicles, including buses, trucks and trailers, coming from Lahore would be stopped at Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, Mandra Toll Plaza and Rawat near T-Chowk. Public transport vehicles coming from Murree would not be allowed to move towards the capital city from Lower Topa, Double Motorway Turn, Dana Mor, Satra Mile toll plaza, he added.
The CTO said, the Traffic Wardens have been directed to implement the traffic plan in letter and spirit so that the traffic congestion could be avoided on city roads. The citizens seeking help or guidance can use CTP Rawalpindi helpline 051-9272616 and Murree traffic police helpline 051-9269200.
