ISLAMABAD, Feb 05 (APP): As many as 35 Asian countries, including Pakistan, are taking part in the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship 2026, which gets underway on Friday in Tianjin, China.
Vice President of the Asian Athletics Federation and Organising Delegate, Major General (Rtd) Muhammad Akram Sahi, said on Thursday that all arrangements for the championship had been finalised during a meeting held ahead of the event.
He said that a total of 323 athletes from across Asia would compete in 26 men’s and women’s events during the three-day championship, which will continue until February 8.
Pakistan are fielding a five-member national team in the championship. The Pakistani athletes include Shajar Abbas (60 metres), Tameen Khan (60 metres), Muhammad Naeem (60 metres hurdles), Muhammad Akhtar (3000 metres) and Sohail Amer (1500 metres).
Chaudhry Asghar Ali Gill is accompanying the team as manager-cum-coach.
The Asian Indoor Athletics Championship is considered a key event on the continental calendar, providing athletes an important platform to compete at the highest level of indoor athletics in Asia.
