ISLAMABAD, Nov 05 (APP): Federal Minister for Law & Justice and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening human rights across the country.
Speaking during a meeting with UNDP Resident Representative Samuel Rizk and European Union representatives, Tarar highlighted the Huqooq-e-Pakistan II project as a key initiative demonstrating Pakistan’s dedication to aligning national policies with constitutional guarantees and international obligations.
He emphasized the Ministry’s focus on policy reforms, institutional strengthening, and public awareness initiatives to promote an inclusive and rights-based society.
Tarar also stressed the importance of continued collaboration with international partners, including UNDP and the EU, to further advance human rights and sustainable development in Pakistan.
Officials briefed the minister on ongoing efforts under the project, including upgrades to the Human Rights Information Management System (HRIMS) and strengthening of the National Mechanism for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up (NMIRF) to ensure Pakistan meets its international treaty obligations.
The discussion also addressed plans to reinforce the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, promoting responsible business conduct, gender equality, and sustainability in the private sector.
Tarar welcomed these initiatives, noting that they would enhance monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and align national standards with international commitments, including GSP+ compliance requirements.
He reiterated the Ministry’s resolve to build a society that is inclusive, equitable, and rights-based, while appreciating the continued partnership of UNDP and the European Union in supporting Pakistan’s human rights agenda.
