ISLAMABAD, Nov 03 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Monday reaffirmed the strength and depth of Pakistan–Canada relations, expressing a shared commitment to further advancing cooperation in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
According to a news release from the DPM’s Office here, during a productive bilateral call held on October 30, both leaders emphasized expanding collaboration in key economic areas, particularly trade, investment, energy, and critical minerals. They agreed to facilitate the export of Canadian canola to Pakistan, recognizing the commodity’s growing potential in Pakistan’s expanding market.
Senator Dar and Minister Anand welcomed the successful conclusion of the first round of negotiations on the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), led by Pakistan’s Minister for Investment, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, and Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu. The agreement, they noted, represents a mutual commitment to creating a stable and transparent environment for foreign investment.
Both sides also underscored the importance of cooperation on energy security and mineral development, with Senator Dar highlighting opportunities for Canadian companies to contribute to Pakistan’s clean energy and mineral resource initiatives.
The two ministers expressed anticipation for the sixth round of Pakistan–Canada Bilateral Consultations, which will provide a platform to advance shared priorities, reinforce public–private linkages, and explore new avenues for strategic collaboration.
Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Canada to promote peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth at both bilateral and multilateral levels, reflecting Islamabad’s emphasis on economic diplomacy and long-term partnerships.
