ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP):Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik has called for urgent and collective global action to address the accelerating impacts of climate change, particularly on vulnerable developing countries.
The minister was addressing the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held in Nairobi, Kenya, where delegates from all 193 UN member states, along with representatives of civil society, scientific institutions, development partners and the private sector, gathered under the theme “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet.”
UNEA-7 focused on negotiating global environmental policies, setting strategic priorities and strengthening international environmental law to accelerate sustainable development.
The discussions also centred on the need for enhanced global financing, international cooperation and science-based solutions to improve climate resilience, adaptation capacity and long-term environmental stability.
In his address, Dr Malik underscored the growing urgency of climate action, warning that environmental degradation would have irreversible consequences if left unaddressed.
“Climate action is no longer a choice; it is a necessity. Nature will continue on its course. If we commit injustice against nature, it is we who will ultimately pay the price,” he said.
Highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, the minister drew attention to the disproportionate impacts faced by climate-affected developing countries, including recurring floods, heatwaves and water stress.
He stressed the need for robust adaptation strategies, resilience-building measures and equitable access to climate finance to mitigate human, economic and ecological losses.
Dr Malik emphasised that without decisive and coordinated global efforts, developing countries would continue to bear the brunt of climate-induced disasters despite contributing minimally to global emissions.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, he said the country remained committed to working with the international community to advance practical climate solutions and strengthen multilateral environmental governance frameworks.
UNEA is the highest-level global decision-making body on environmental matters and plays a key role in shaping international environmental policy and cooperation.
