ISLAMABAD, Apr 8 (APP):Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla on Monday called for enhancing cooperation in areas of forestation, climate change, technology transfer, trade and commerce.
The Deputy Chairman expressed these views during a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador in Islamabad Claudio Lins who called on him, said a press release.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of Mission Romulo Neves, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik and Senator Sitara Ayaz.
Both sides agreed on the need of enhancing trade volume between the two countries which stands at a meagre 600 million dollars.
The Ambassador informed the Senators that a trade mission comprising of 28 leading Pakistani businessmen is heading to Brazil, in coordination of missions in both the countries. He added that the visit will have a meaningful impact in accessing the Brazilian market and will be an attempt to showcase what Pakistan has to sell.
Deputy Chairman Senate observed that Senate of any country being the Upper House of Parliament and having members of professional expertise has the power to push ahead the agendas of the government.
Brazilian and Pakistan Senate through more frequent exchanges and effective friendship groups should devise mechanism to enhance cooperation in areas of forestation, climate change, technology transfer, trade and commerce, joint ventures, and adding cultural and environmental element to the cooperation in addition to the commercial aspect.
