Pakistan extended its full support to the candidature of Jasharat Adib Chowdhury of Bangladesh for membership of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (APP):Pakistan extended its full support to the candidature of Jasharat Adib Chowdhury of Bangladesh for membership of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.
The Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, supported the Bangladeshi candidate, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation and stronger representation of the Asia-Pacific region within the IPU.
Ms. Chowdhury subsequently secured a majority of votes and was elected to the IPU Executive Committee.
Congratulating Ms. Chowdhury and the Bangladeshi delegation, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh and looks forward to further strengthening parliamentary engagement between the two countries.
“Pakistan believes in strengthening cooperation among the parliaments of the Asia-Pacific region and ensuring that our collective voice is effectively represented in international parliamentary forums,” he said.
The Chairman Senate added that parliamentary diplomacy remains an important instrument for promoting dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation on shared regional and global challenges.
