ISLAMABAD, Nov 05 (APP):The newly inaugurated Pak-China Friendship Hospital, Islamabad has welcomed its first newborn, with its medical team successfully saving the lives of a mother and her baby boy who arrived in a critical emergency.
According to hospital officials, the Gynecology Emergency Department responded promptly to the emergency and provided timely medical care, ensuring the safe delivery of the baby and saving both lives.
The family expressed happiness over the successful treatment, while citizens across the country appreciated the establishment of the modern healthcare facility and the government’s initiative to provide free medical services to the public.
The hospital was formally inaugurated on October 27, 2026, marking an important milestone in Pakistan-China healthcare cooperation. The facility, located in Chak Shahzad, was renamed Pak-China Friendship Hospital in recognition of China’s support.
Spread over approximately 40 kanals, the hospital is equipped with modern wards, laboratories and other healthcare facilities and is being managed by Indus Hospital and Health Network under a public-private partnership arrangement.
The hospital was originally established as a temporary healthcare facility in 2020. It was constructed by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), with support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Institute of Health (NIH), in approximately 40 days.
Previously known as Margalla Hospital and later Islamabad Health and Medical Complex, the facility was developed with financial assistance from China.
The government subsequently selected Indus Hospital and Health Network to manage and operate the facility under a public-private partnership arrangement. Agreements covering the hospital and Regional Blood Centre were signed on July 31, 2026, following cabinet approval.
Under the management arrangement, the hospital is intended to provide free-of-cost healthcare services to patients, including residents of Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The successful treatment of the first mother and newborn marks an encouraging beginning for the facility and highlights its role in improving access to emergency and maternal healthcare services.
