ISLAMABAD, Dec 8 (APP): Air Vice Marshal (retd) Shahzad Chaudhary Tuesday said that the Pakistan armed forces had the ability to root out any militant group from the country.
It was evident from the successful operation Zarb-i-Azb (against terrorists in North Waziristan Agency), he said while addressing the two-day international conference on ‘Emergence of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Middle East and its implications for South Asia’, which started here at National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
The conference was jointly organized by International Relations Department of NUML and Higher Education Commission (HEC), said a press release. Speaking as chief guest, he said the ISIS had become a global threat. It was not only present in the Middle East but also
spreading in vulnerable states like Afghanistan.
Afghanistan was a weak state and the ISIS rapid emergence in the area was a big threat to all surrounding states, he added.AVM Shahzad said,” Islam is a religion of peace, it is not only for the Muslims but also for the humans. In Islam taking a single human
life means you kill the whole mankind and ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. It is just created to show a wrong image of Islam to the whole world.”
He said the super powers must stop manipulating the Middle East for their own agendas and leave it to the ME people to resolve their issues themselves.
Other speakers shared useful information and suggestions to combat the threat of ISIS. The menace could only be defeated with joint and serious efforts of the global powers.
Earlier, Head Department of International Relations NUML Maqsood-ul-Hassan Noori in his welcome address, said the conference would help students understand the ISIS phenomena.
Dr Muhammad Khan, Head of Department IR National Defense University, Dr Matthew Nelson from University of London, Maki R Abdullah Al-Mamori, Consul Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Adeel Malik University of Oxford, Dr Asma Shakir Khawaja from NDU, Andrey Shabalin Counselor Embassy of Russia, Dr Sayed Mahdi Mosvai from Qom Islamic University Iran, Chen Tongfrom Xinjiang Normal University, Dr. Daniel Warner From Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces and Raza Naeem from University of Management & Technology Lahore were guest speakers on the first day.
Director General NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, Registrar, Deans, Directors, HoDs and other officials also attended the conference.
