Over 9 mln population restricted under 549 targeted lockdowns: NCOC

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Monday said around 549 smart or targeted lockdowns were imposed across the country in all the provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) where 9,093,818 people were restricted in the lockdown areas.

According to the NCOC, in Punjab around 184 targeted lockdowns were imposed in various districts where around 2 million population was restricted.
In Sindh, as many as 68 locations in different districts were under smart lockdown where 4,951,000 people were restricted.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 232 smart lockdowns were imposed in various districts where 534,110 people were restricted.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), around 40 locations were imposed under smart lockdown whereas four other districts of AJK were under complete lockdown where 1,502,548 people were restricted.

In Islamabad Capital Territory (lCT), as many as 10 smart lockdowns were imposed whereas 90,000 people were restricted.

In GB, around 16 locations were imposed under smart lockdown whereas 16,160 people were restricted.

It merits mention here that the targeted or smart lockdowns were imposed in the areas with maximum coronavirus patients being reported, whereas the main focus was to restrict infected masses to contain the risk of coronavirus outbreak.
