ISLAMABAD, Feb 17 (APP):Islamabad has issued more than 600,000 e-tags to vehicles so far, and the second phase will begin on February 20 to cover motorcycles as well.
Motorcycle owners will be able to obtain e-tags from 10:00 am at 13 designated points across the city, said the spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration here.
He said that the process of installing e-tags on vehicles in the federal capital is continuing, with authorities confirming steady progress during the first phase. After completing e-tagging for cars and other vehicles, the administration has decided to start the second phase for motorcycles.
He said the formal launch of e-tagging for motorcycles will take place on February 20. From that date, motorcycle owners can visit assigned locations across Islamabad to receive their e-tags. The service will be available from 10:00
am onwards.
To obtain an e-tag, motorcycle owners must bring their vehicle registration documents along with their national identity card. Officials stressed that both documents are mandatory and applications will not be processed without them.
The e-tag requirement will apply to all categories of motorcycles. This includes standard motorcycles, ride-hailing bikes such as Bykea, heavy bikes, and all other types of two-wheelers operating within the city limits. Authorities said no category of motorcycle is exempt from the system.
Director General Excise Irfan Memon said the response from citizens has been encouraging and has helped
the department move towards the next stage of implementation.
He added that the e-tagging operation is currently being carried out at 13 points across Islamabad. These points have been set up to facilitate vehicle owners and reduce waiting time. Staff has been deployed at each location to manage
the process and guide applicants.
The Director General urged citizens to cooperate with the e-tagging campaign and ensure timely registration of their vehicles. He said public cooperation is essential for the smooth execution of the system and for achieving its intended outcomes.
Officials clarified that the registration process for Bykea and online taxi services is being carried out separately. While e-tagging applies to all motorcycles, ride-hailing services must also complete their specific registration requirements through the relevant channels.
Authorities said the purpose of these measures is to improve travel safety and management in the city. The e-tag system will help maintain accurate vehicle records, support enforcement efforts, and assist in traffic regulation.
The Excise Department stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to organize vehicle movement and ensure compliance with registration rules. Officials believe that extending e-tagging to motorcycles will help cover a large
segment of daily commuters.
Motorcycle owners have been advised to plan their visit to the nearest e-tag point after February 20 and bring the required documents to avoid delays. Officials said further information about locations and procedures will continue to be shared through official channels.
The administration reiterated that the e-tagging drive is aimed at making travel safer for both residents and visitors, and called on citizens to take part in the process responsibly.
