ISLAMABAD, July 25 (APP): Minister of State for Interior Baligh ur Rehman said Monday that 1782 beggars were arrested and 58 cases were registered in different crackdowns against beggars in the federal capital.
Speaking about resolution which was moved by Chaudhry
Tanvir Khan and asking government to take immediate steps to control the increasing number of child beggars in Islamabad and to make arrangements for the proper education, the minister said since 2013 the interior ministry had constituted two squads to take action against the beggars.
During these operations, he said 1782 beggars were arrested and 208 girl beggars were referred to Edhi homes.
Chairman Senate said this issue may not be forwarded to
the concerned committees for now as full committee of the Upper House would take up issues concerning the deprived segments of the society on July 26 and it would present recommendations in this regard.
Earlier discussing resolution, Senator Chaudhry Tanvir
Khan said number of beggars was increasing in the federal
capital and the government should take measures to provide
education to overcome the issue.
Azam Swati said this issue was of important nature and it
should be referred to committees concerned , adding there was a need, the government made an organization for welfare child beggars.
Sitara Ayaz said mafia was involved in the beggary,
thus concrete measures should be taken against such people who were involved in this unethical practice.
Jehanzeb Jamaldini said the government should take measure for making arrangements to create job opportunities to discourage the beggary especially among the young people.
Taj Haider was of the view the police should take
concrete measures and strict action against beggars pestering at crowded places in the federal capital.
Usman Kakar underlined the need for the government
to provide respectable jobs to people and control cost of
living within limits as these reasons among others forced the
poor resort to beggary, he added.
Rehman Malik, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Nihal Hashmi and
Tanvirul Haq Tanvi urged the government to take necessary
measures to overcome beggary issue and introduce
more people-welfare oriented measures.
