ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (APP):Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review progress on the “One Patient, One ID” project aimed at establishing a universal medical record system in Pakistan.
The meeting agreed to make the project operational at the earliest in line with the Prime Minister’s directions, formulate clear Terms of Reference (ToRs), and conduct a third-party audit and comprehensive review.
Syed Mustafa Kamal directed that issues concerning the project during the last 14–15 months be documented and their practical solutions, responsibilities and corrective measures clearly defined to remove hurdles in implementation.
The minister stressed the need for effective coordination among all relevant institutions and directed that the outstanding matters be resolved through a clear and time-bound mechanism.
Under the initiative, each citizen’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number will serve as a unique medical record number, enabling authorised healthcare providers to access a patient’s medical history and previous records across different hospitals.
The meeting was informed that work on establishing a universal medical record system was progressing, which would help improve continuity of care and facilitate access to patient information.
The initiative is expected to strengthen digital healthcare services, improve coordination among healthcare facilities and support more efficient patient care through integrated medical records.
