LAHORE, Sep 07 (APP):Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday said that the old Punjab Assembly building was cramped for space and did not have enough room to house 371 members.
Presiding over a meeting on under-construction new assembly building at the Punjab Assembly here, he said the old Punjab Assembly building could house only 248 members, adding had Shehbaz Sharif’s government shown interest, the new building would have completed some eight years ago.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar attended the meeting on the request of the Speaker. Ch. Pervaiz Elahi briefed the CM Buzdar on the under-construction new Punjab Assembly building, MPAs hostel and a mosque.
Pervaiz Elahi said the development projects of the previous Pervaiz Elahi government were slaughtered at the altar of former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif’s prejudice, adding that the government would hold the guilty responsible for delay in the execution of the project.
The Speaker PA said the fathers of the empty slogan of ‘Respect the Vote’ did not respect the parliamentarians who had been elected through the vote and kept the members of the provincial assembly in constant anxiety.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi expressed his desire to hold the next year’s budget session in the new Punjab Assembly building after the timely completion of construction work.
Earlier, the officials from the Building Department and the National College of Arts (NCA) gave a detailed briefing on the project.
