ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP):The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Sunday expressed its concern over the recent issues of controversial citizenship rights legislation and the Babri Masjid case affecting the Muslim minority population in India.
“The General Secretariat reaffirms the crucial importance of upholding the principles and obligations enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and relevant international covenants that guarantee the rights of minorities without any discrimination,” the secretariat said in a press release posted on its website.
In this regard, it said, any action, contrary to these principles and obligations might lead to further tensions and might have serious implications on peace and security across the region.
It further said it had been closely following recent developments affecting Muslim minority in India.
The OIC secretariat reiterated call to ensure the safety of the Muslim minority and the protection of Islamic holy places in India.
