ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP): Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani Saturday appreciated the continued commitment of Pakistan to peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, reiterating OIC’s position in support of the right of self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC Secretary General, who is visiting here from August 19-21 along with senior officials of the OIC Secretariat, said this during his meeting with Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a Foreign Office statement.
Sartaj Aziz received the guest on his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, they focused on a number of challenges facing the Muslim world, particularly on the situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and peace in Afghanistan.
The Adviser apprised the OIC Secretary General of the grave humanitarian situation in the IOK where large-scale violations of human rights were being carried out by the Indian occupation forces.
The Secretary General said that reason for his visit to Pakistan was the current situation in the IOK.
He expressed deep concern at the killing of innocent civilians in the IOK and sorrow at the indiscriminate use of force and gross violations of human rights in the IOK by the Indian occupation forces.
The OIC Secretary General briefed the Adviser on OIC’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan. Sartaj Aziz appreciated the efforts undertaken by the OIC in this regard and assured that Pakistan remained committed to the promotion of peace and reconciliation in the country through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.
This is the fourth visit of the OIC Secretary General to Islamabad since assuming the office on January 01, 2014.
He also visited Pakistan for the 15th Session of the Executive Committee of COMSTECH held on 30 May-01 June 2016.
