ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP):The specially abled children hailing from various educational institutions of the federal capital advised the road users to ‘obey road safety rules’ during a walk held here at the Trail-4 on the Margalla Hills the other day.
The event was organized by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) in collaboration with Wild Mild Cafe, the most tourist attraction in the vicinity.
Distributing leaflets in a bid to sensitize the motorists, they urged to wear the seat belt and helmet while riding the vehicle or motorbike to avoid any fatal injuries in road crashes.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jamil Hashmi, the mastermind behind this unique initiative, said the specially abled children directly or indirectly had imparted a big message to the sane road users that they should abide by the traffic rules and regulations religiously, otherwise (God forbid) it takes no time to be special person due to reckless driving.
He also stressed upon the need to be extra careful for physically handicapped road users as they were already dejected segment of the society.
The SSP Hashmi proposed the educational institutions to use a special indicator like white cane for visually and hearing impaired children so that the mentally and physically fit motorists could easily recognize them and give them a special attention.
On this occasion, NHMP Mobile Education Unit (M-2 North) Imran Abbas gave a detailed briefing on the rescue equipments being used by traffic police for taking out the seriously inured from their vehicles.
Talking to this scribe, he lamented that road safety was the most neglected subject in our society and there was a dire need to realize the people about its significance and necessity to implement in letter and spirit.
Pointing out the last year’s causalities, he said around 36,000 people were killed in road accidents across the country.
Abbas, sensing the gravity of the situation, alarmed that road accidents could be one of the biggest issues of the country in days to come if we did not pay heed to it keeping in view the measures adopted by the advanced countries on the globe.
He said the education unit of NHMP was reaching the unreached to create the traffic rules awareness with state-of-the-art equipments.
To entertain the specially abled children, the NHMP also organized a magic show and distributed the gifts among them.
