NHMP returns Rs5.3m in excess fares to passengers

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has returned Rs5.3 million to passengers charged excess fares by transport operators as part of its ongoing nationwide campaign against overcharging and overloading.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 01 (APP): The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has returned Rs5.3 million to passengers charged excess fares by transport operators as part of its ongoing nationwide campaign against overcharging and overloading.
According to an NHMP spokesperson, the special enforcement drive is being carried out on the directions of Inspector General NHMP Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry to protect passengers from exploitation and ensure safe travel on highways and motorways.
The spokesperson said that more than Rs5.3 million collected unlawfully in excess fares had been recovered from transporters and returned to passengers.
In addition, over 20,000 challans have been issued to passenger vehicles for overloading, overcharging and operating with incomplete travel documents during the campaign.
The NHMP has advised citizens to lodge complaints directly with Motorway Police officers, through the helpline 130, or via the official social media handle @NHMP.
The spokesperson added that Motorway Police personnel are also conducting awareness campaigns at toll plazas across the country to educate road users about traffic laws and road safety measures.
The NHMP reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe, fair and comfortable travel for the public and warned that strict action would continue against violators.
