NHMP foils arms smuggling bid on M-5 Motorway, arrests two suspects
ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP):The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Thursday foiled an attempt to smuggle a large cache of weapons on the M-5 Motorway near Rohri and arrested two suspects.
According to the NHMP spokesperson, Motorway Police officials signalled a speeding suspicious car to stop, but the occupants ignored clear instructions at three different locations and attempted to flee.
The spokesperson said NHMP personnel pursued the vehicle with professional skill and intercepted it near Rohri.
During the search, officials recovered 14 submachine guns (SMGs), one shotgun, 23 pistols, over 18,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, 89 additional magazines, four telescopic sights and five mobile phones from the vehicle.
The suspects, identified as Ubaid Ullah, a resident of Peshawar, and Abdullah, a resident of Kohat, were allegedly transporting the consignment of weapons from Peshawar to interior Sindh.
The arrested suspects, along with the recovered weapons, ammunition and vehicle, were handed over to the relevant district police for further legal proceedings, the spokesperson added.
