According to the latest meteorological assessment, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall in higher altitudes is expected from March 14 to 16, 2026 in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Areas likely to be affected include Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Kotli, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, and Battagram, along with surrounding localities.

NEOC has cautioned that snowfall and rainfall in mountainous regions may lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility, and an increased likelihood of landslides and avalanches. These conditions may also result in temporary travel disruptions, road blockages, and possible power outages in some areas.

NDMA has further warned that rainfall combined with rising temperatures may accelerate glacier melt and increase the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). As a result, areas including Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Gilgit, Astore, and Skardu may face the risk of sudden surges in streams and rivers, potentially leading to localized flooding in downstream valleys.

Additionally, rainfall and snowfall may increase the likelihood of landslides along mountainous terrain, particularly along the Karakoram Highway and adjoining routes. Areas including Diamer, Darel, Tangir, Astore, and Hunza are considered vulnerable, where landslides could lead to temporary road closures and disruptions to transportation and travel activities.

NDMA has advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through mountainous and landslide-prone areas, and to exercise caution while travelling. The public is urged to adopt necessary precautionary measures and follow the instructions issued by local authorities.

NDMA has also directed local administrations and relevant departments to ensure preparedness, closely monitor vulnerable areas, and maintain readiness of emergency response teams to address any potential incidents.

National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) is continuously monitoring the situation and maintaining coordination with provincial and district authorities to ensure timely preparedness and response.

The public is advised to remain updated on weather developments and to use the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application for timely alerts, updates, and safety guidance.
