NDMA stresses establishing strong, efficient warning system to avoid losses

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): Chairman National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA) Maj Gen Asghar Nawaz Friday stressed the need for
establishing strong and efficient early warning dissemination system and timely prepositioning of required rescue and relief stocks at the district level to avoid monsoon losses.

Chairing a high level meeting in Karachi,he expressed
satisfaction over the ongoing preparations and apprised the participants about national scale contingency plan to combat 2016 monsoon season, said a press release.

He said NDMA has emphasized that the limitations in response
mechanism be mitigated through better preparedness and enhanced coordination between all departments.

NDMA is holding consultative meetings in collaboration with
all the provincial/ regional disaster management authorities to review preparedness about impending Monsoon Season by respective provinces/regions for upcoming Monsoon Season.

The participants of the meeting included NDMA officials,
representatives of all key provincial stakeholders including (Secretaries, Commissioners as well as key departments/line agencies) besides representatives of PDMA Sindh, PMD, Armed Forces and Navy.

DG PDMA Sindh gave detailed presentation on various contours
of provincial contingency plan for Monsoon 2016, details of vulnerable districts that may fall in the threat of flooding during the Monsoon Season 2016.

The DG also apprised NDMA team on the level of PDMA Sindh
preparedness based on lessons learnt from previous floods across the country especially in Sindh province to cope with any rain/flood situation.

After holding the consultative meeting, Chairman NDMA also had
detailed meeting with Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Siddique Memon where in need to better manage ground situation in case of any emergency was stressed with the support of entire provincial setup and also assured him of NDMA’s support.
