NDMA, COMSATS call for unified climate action on World Environment Day 2025

ISLAMABAD, Jun 20 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) on Friday called to enhance collaboration, mobilize strategic resources, and accelerate adaptation across critical sectors in Pakistan and beyond.
The seminar titled “Bridging the Climate-Adaptation Divide Across the Food-Water-Agriculture Nexus” was held at the NEOC Auditorium, NDMA Headquarters, in observance of World Environment Day 2025.
Federal Minister for Climate Change & Environment Coordination Dr Musadik Masood Malik was Chief Guest. Justice Jawad Hassan, Lahore High Court delivered a keynote speech on subject. Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik and Ambassador Dr Zakaria, Executive Director COMSATS, Country Director UNEP, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Memon, Country Director WHH Ms. Aisha Jamshed expressed their insightful remarks on the topic. Collectively, their statements underlined the contours of the adaptation divide and stressed the need for systemic, equity-driven responses to enhance climate resilience.
The thematic panel session featured thought leaders and climate experts, including Ms Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, Jahangir Piracha, CEO Fauji Fertilizer, Malik Amin Aslam Khan, former Federal Minister for Climate Change and Bilal Anwar, CEO NDRMF.
Among the salient takeaways of panel discussions were the strategic importance of embedding digital climate advisories, farmer-led innovation ecosystems and predictive modeling in rural development policy, the prioritization of gender-sensitive, nutrition-informed adaptation frameworks and the recalibration of climate finance portfolios to support long-term, programmatic infrastructure and ecosystem resilience.
The event was attended by over 200 participants including government officials, diplomats, climate scientists, media, civil society leaders, and private sector representatives to address climate adaptation challenges faced by agrarian economies, particularly in the Global South.
