ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik visited the Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) here on Sunday.
He paid this visit on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review monsoon preparedness and strengthen response measures against flash floods, glacial lake outburst floods, landslides and riverine flooding in vulnerable areas of the region, according to a press release received here.
NDMA chief reviews Gilgit Baltistan monsoon preparedness
During the visit, the NDMA chief conducted a district wise review of preparedness measures, including early warning systems, rescue and relief capacities, evacuation plans and coordination mechanisms to ensure a swift and effective response during the ongoing monsoon season.
He directed the authorities to ensure the timely implementation of contingency plans and the prepositioning of relief supplies in high risk areas.
He also stressed the need to enhance community awareness to minimise risks and improve preparedness at the local level.
Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik underscored the importance of seamless coordination among district administrations, disaster management authorities and all relevant stakeholders for an effective emergency response.
He appreciated the efforts of the Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authority and reaffirmed NDMA’s full support for strengthening the region’s resilience against hydro meteorological hazards.
