NCSW Condemns Exploitation of Women by Militant Groups, Calls for Urgent Protection Measures

ISLAMABAD, Feb 03 (APP):The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the increasing exploitation of women by militant and extremist organisations in Pakistan’s conflict-affected regions, particularly Balochistan, calling for urgent protection, empowerment, and peace-building measures.
In a strongly worded statement, the Commission said the use of women by banned groups for coercion, propaganda, and acts of violence constitutes a serious violation of their human rights, dignity, and fundamental right to life and security. “Women can never be tools of conflict,” the statement said, warning that any attempt to normalise or glorify such exploitation undermines gender justice, human rights, and sustainable peace.
Commending the courage and resilience of women in Balochistan, the Commission paid tribute to mothers and women who continue to uphold family cohesion, reject violence, and stand for peace.
“These women represent the true strength and unity of Pakistan,” the statement noted.
Highlighting the historical role of women in Pakistan’s nation-building process, the NCSW recalled the leadership of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah during the independence movement and said women in Balochistan and conflict-affected districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue that legacy through their contributions to community resilience and peace-building.
The Commission urged federal and provincial governments to adopt coordinated and immediate measures, including expanding access to quality education and healthcare for women and girls, strengthening psychosocial and trauma-informed support services, promoting sustainable economic empowerment opportunities, implementing community-based initiatives to counter radicalisation, and enhancing protection mechanisms and survivor-centred reporting systems.
Reiterating that women are central to peace, security, and development, the NCSW said investing in women’s empowerment strengthens communities, counters extremism, and builds resilient societies.
“The courage of Pakistan’s women living under the shadow of conflict remains a powerful force for peace and progress,” the statement added.
