ISLAMABAD, Dec 07 (APP): National Voters’ Day was observed nationwide on Sunday to highlight the importance of voting, encourage greater public participation in elections, and reaffirm the role of citizens in strengthening democratic values.

The initiative highlighted the power of each individual vote and reaffirmed democratic principles as central to shaping the nation’s future.

In 2017, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared December 7 as National Voters’ Day, a nationwide observance aimed at promoting awareness of the democratic right to vote. The date carries historic significance, marking the anniversary of Pakistan’s first general elections held on December 7, 1970.

National Voters’ Day underscores the resilience of Pakistan’s democratic system, highlighting the vital role of citizens in shaping the country’s future. The observance serves as a platform to promote voter registration, safeguard political rights, and encourage active participation in the electoral process.
At its core, the initiative seeks to boost public engagement in elections, with a particular emphasis on motivating eligible citizens to register and exercise their right to vote.

In his message on the occasion of National Voters Day, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the importance of citizens’ active and meaningful participation in building a strong, stable, and effective democracy.
He reiterated Parliament’s commitment to promoting democratic values and raising public awareness about the vital role of voting.
