National policy soon to regulate Afghan refugees: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, June 30 (APP): Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar
Ali Khan on Thursday said Afghan refugees issue is quite serious and
soon a national policy would be conceived to regulate their stay
in Pakistan.

The successive governments had braced burden of hundreds of
thousands of refugees in Pakistan but now the time has come to prepare a comprehensive national policy on the matter, he added.

In an informal talk with media persons here at an iftar dinner, Ch. Nisar said a meeting has been planned on return of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif which would decide upon which principles the Afghan refugees would stay in Pakistan.

Replying to a question, he said Pakistan had shown a good gesture and permitted Afghan refugees in the country but unfortunately the rules and regulations were not followed after they were allowed inside the country.

He said the first principle was that international community
would help and support Pakistan and the other was that no refugee would be allowed to purchase property in Pakistan.

Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said under re verification derive of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), the government has announced that any foreigner/refugee who voluntarily returns the illegally obtained CNIC within two months would be awarded a refugee status and in case the fake card holder is traced during drive he/she would be deported or sent to jail.

Answering a question about law and order situation in Karachi,
he said as per law and constitution, Chief Minister is Captain of
the operation and has all authority while other departments are
playing a supporting role.

He went on saying that operation in mega city has helped
significant decrease in number of incidents of extortion, terrorism,
target killing and kidnapping for ransom while increase has been
witnessed in number of street crimes.

Replying to another question, the Minister said those who were raising hue and cry over Panama leaks are also involved in purchasing properties abroad.
