ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP):Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the nation still remembers the devastation caused by the October 8, 2005 earthquake, and paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unity displayed by the Pakistani people in the face of one of the country’s worst natural disasters.
In his message on the occasion of National Resilience Day, the Interior Minister said that October 8 serves as a solemn reminder of the tragic earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and left millions homeless. “The nation has not forgotten the destruction caused by the 2005 earthquake,” he said, adding that Pakistanis confronted the calamity with “patience, strength, and unity.”
Naqvi said the day symbolizes the unbreakable spirit and resilience of the people of Pakistan who stood shoulder to shoulder in rescue and relief efforts. “The enthusiasm and commitment with which the nation took part in relief activities is a shining chapter in our history,” he remarked.
The Interior Minister also paid homage to those who lost their lives in the earthquake, stating that their sacrifices serve as an enduring lesson in humanity, service, and selflessness.
Mohsin Naqvi expressed gratitude to rescue agencies, the Pakistan Armed Forces, civil society, and international aid organizations for their vital contributions to the relief and rehabilitation of the victims.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening disaster management systems and enhancing the country’s capacity for rapid and effective response to natural calamities. “The government is determined to modernize its disaster preparedness and response mechanisms to ensure timely action and minimize losses in the face of future emergencies,” he said.
The observance of National Resilience Day serves as both a commemoration of the 2005 tragedy and a reminder of the nation’s enduring resolve to stand united in times of crisis.
