NAB recovers Rs4,300 mln in last 18 months: Chairman

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP):National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal Thursday said the Bureau has recovered Rs4,300 million from corrupts in last 18 months and deposited in the national exchequer.

Addressing NAB bureau staff in Multan, he said NAB has deposited a total of Rs303 billion in national exchequer since its inception, according to a message received here.

The chairman said it is a record achievement as no other anti corruption agency in the country has recovered such a huge amount from the corrupts within a short span of time.

Lauding the performance of Multan NAB, he said the bureau is committed to eradicate the menace of corruption with professionalism and transparency.

He said NAB is giving top priority for the logical conclusion of mega corruption white collar crime cases.

NAB has rationalized its workload and timelines by prescribing efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases and putting a maximum limit of 10 months – from complaint verification-to-inquiry-to-investigation and finally to a reference in the accountability court. 

He said NAB has also introduced a new system of Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers.

The system of CIT is comprised of director, additional director, investigation officer and a senior legal counsel. This will not only lend quality to the work but also ensure that no single individual can influence the proceedings. The results of the CIT are very encouraging.

He said he has perfected the procedure to make NAB more effective and devised a proactive anti-corruption strategy which is considered best strategy due to its efficacy and remarkable results.

Earlier, Multan NAB Director General Atiq-ur-Rehman highlighted the performance of Multan office, saying, the bureau was actively perusing the cause of elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement by adopting zero tolerance policy across the board.  

He said we have learnt a lot under your dynamic leadership and we should be more focus on strengthening our institutions so that new beginnings of our coming generations will be glorious.
He said strong leadership like yours can lead the organizations in the right direction to set goals.

The NAB chairman said Multan NAB is one of the important regional bureaus. It has played excellent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB. He appreciated the performance of Multan NAB under the supervision of Atiq-ur-Rehman, and directed all ranks of officers of Multan NAB to work more vigilantly, diligently and honestly in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.

He said Multan NAB has played an excellent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB and Multan officers are working in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption was being taken as national duty.
