NAB recovers record Rs2.45 Trillion, reclaims over a million acres of state land in Q2 2026
ISLAMABAD, Aug 4 (APP):Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said on Tuesday that it achieved record direct and indirect recoveries worth Rs2.45 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, while reclaiming more than 1.078 million acres of valuable state-owned land across Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad.
According to a NAB press release, total recoveries during the first half of 2026 reached Rs5.414 trillion, the highest six-month recovery figure in the bureau’s history.
The bureau also announced the initiation of measures to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based accountability system aimed at enhancing transparency and improving the efficiency of investigations.
NAB Sukkur recorded the largest recovery, reclaiming 853,678 acres of land belonging to the National Highway Authority (NHA), the Forest Department and the Irrigation Department, in collaboration with the Sindh Board of Revenue and the provincial Forest Secretary. The recovered land, valued at Rs1.01 trillion, has been transferred to the Sindh government.
In Balochistan, NAB recovered 209,544 acres of land worth Rs604.64 billion, including areas along the Coastal Highway, the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA) and Hingol National Park.
NAB Karachi reclaimed 11,422 acres of government land valued at Rs467.11 billion, which had allegedly been illegally allotted or leased under questionable arrangements to housing societies and private individuals.
Meanwhile, NAB Lahore recovered 1,909 acres of land worth Rs288.29 billion belonging to the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) and other public institutions.
NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi recovered 810 acres of land valued at Rs66.63 billion, including welfare plots owned by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) that had been occupied by various housing societies. NAB Multan also recovered 920 acres of government land worth Rs2.76 billion.
The bureau said that in housing and financial fraud cases, more than 24,365 victims were compensated through the return of cash and assets worth Rs42.303 billion.
NAB further stated that it is transitioning to a fully paperless e-office system integrated with AI-driven automation. The technology will support case analysis, evidence examination and investigations through machine learning, reducing human discretion and promoting transparent, evidence-based accountability.
The bureau also announced that the Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy (PACA) has been fully operationalized and upgraded as a Centre of Excellence to provide modern training for investigators and staff.
According to the statement, NAB has recovered a cumulative Rs16.938 trillion between March 2023 and June 2026, describing the achievement as a reflection of its continuing campaign against corruption and commitment to recovering state assets.
The bureau reaffirmed its resolve to continue promoting transparent and accountable governance through accountability, anti-corruption measures, prevention strategies and public awareness initiatives.
